“The Fantasticks”
In 1976, when Chris’ mom, Karen appeared in a local production of The Fantasticks, I painted the curtain backdrop for the show, using the then, blank wall to hang the fabric. The paint seeped through making an imprint on the wall. For a long time thereafter, it was the only graphic application on the unfinished surface of the wall.
“Yield”
This landscape, by CDM, rendered in bold, painterly strokes, was a bit of a mystery until Terri Belasco, his girlfriend at the time, revealed that it was done as a companion piece to a Pearl Jam poster included in their 1998 album “Yield.” Chris had affixed the poster to the wall, and then “finished” the left side of the image.

I recently discovered this painting that my son Christopher had done (signed, but not dated). The work is remarkable. Amazing really, in it’s subject and execution. My first thought upon finding it was, why didn’t I know and recognize this brilliant example of a talent when it was created? Did I see it when he painted it, and dismiss it as the work of a young dilettante? I have no recollection – it was as though I was seeing it for the first time. And I yearned to now, praise him for it. Christopher was first and foremost, a musician and a songwriter. Secondarily, a graphic designer – but, not to my knowledge, a fine artist. So this, and another I found with it, were, as far as I know, “one-offs,” and as such, all the more intriguing and tantalizing. I’m sure he would be pleased to know it is now a Christmas card. – ETM, 2020

We’re not sure who the poet is,
(the handwriting seems to match Meghan’s “La La Girl”) but the beauty and irony of the sentiment is undeniable.

“Decorative Filigree”
This graceful brushwork is reminiscent of Spencerian calligraphy.
“The Feline Beast”
Surely among the more puzzling segments of the Wall is this aggregation of discordant elements. Which of them are meant to go together? The two over-lapping triangle segments, the feline beast and the “cup runneth over...” verse came from the same brush. But what about the orange circle and dot? And, the pasted-on photo of the German Poet & Author, Charles Bukowski? *
"Seems everytime I look again some more memories come to mind that might further help explain some of the writings on the wall. The Feline Beast possibly correlates to the “Lion Song“ which appears on the Serenity CD we recorded. There is another track called “Wolf Song“ which could be the underlying creature. I have attached two YouTube clips of those songs we did on the Staten Island cable show Metro Scene in 2001.” – B. Smith, 9.23.21

“The Artist Formally Known As”
Chris loved Prince. His spray-paint tribute marks the “Artist Formerly Known As” symbol adapted by Prince Rogers Nelson in 1993.
“B. With Arrow”
“Lots of memories right there. The Big B with arrow down and strange symbol to its right was my handy work.”
“The symbol was something I added to the wall. This was the signature artist Derek Riggs would use on his artwork. He did many of the band Iron Maiden, my favorite band, album covers so that was my little homage to Maiden. Unfortunately I can not recall who wrote the Thank You. However, a fond memory did pop into my head which was always having that smell of a freshly brewed pot of coffee walking into your home for rehearsal. I’m not sure if you always had a pot on at 7/8pm but I am pretty certain Chris always made it for us to fuel up before playing. I can smell it as I type this.” – Brian Smith
“Alien”
This other-worldly creature, peers
dolefully out from behind a red & black grill, Perhaps it’s counting off a
sentence – 28 units brush stroked beneath its chin.
“Semz”
Joseph McCarthy, aka “Joey Semz” was an infamous local Graffitti artist, in the early eighties, until he died of a drug overdose in 2007. I’m not sure how often he visited the attic, but his unmistakable tag is emblazoned on the upper righthand corner of the Wall.

“The Frame”
Like “The Fantasticks” , this piece owes its existance to an inadvertant consequence of the creation of another project. Unlike the former, the primary work here is unknown. All we have is the red, blue and black ribbons of border spray...
and a riddle – at 8 ft. wide and 6’ high, what was the progenitor? A banner perhaps. It’s remains serves nobly as a colorful border for several smaller pieces below.

With all due respect to the master, Franz Kline, this piece, likely created not specifically to be considered a work of art, (no less an example of abstract expressionism), but to me nonetheless, evokes the spirit of Kline’s gestural paintings. – ETM
